a q'ift of Livina

DR. EVELYN WILLSON WENDT

Newark State College is most fortunate indeed, to have on its
faeulty a most sensitive and creative individual. Through her efforts,
students have come to view life and living as an exciting challenge, a
welcome adventure. In her teachings, the ideals of awareness and the
joys of living are personified. Her aspirations become an integral part
of the student's character. Her ideals are externalized and mark a trail
by which to seek and know life. She has so much to offer that students
never actually leave her class. They are forever affected by her zest
for living.

Therefore, we, the Class of 1966, in deepest appreciation dedicate
this, our Memorabilia, to Dr. Evelyn Willson Wendt.

EUGENE G. WILKINS

To the Class of 1966:

Each of us likes to be individually distinguished. The Class of 1966
closes a 111-year period of the college. In September of 1966 the
college begins its career, though in a small way at first, as a multi-
purpose college. It is as if your class in leaving were carrying a flag
along the highway and giving it to the watchman, indicating that the
way was open for others to come. I can visualize the Class of 1966
with 1 1 1 years of other classes going before them; those in Civil War
costume, the gay 90's, the roaring 20's, the pinched 30's, and the look
of the Class of 1966, which I shall not attempt to describe.

Our very best wishes and high hopes go with you. Our wannest
welcome will always be waiting for you when you return.

Sincerely yours,

'*«te^/

SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR

The Class of 1966 would like to express its gratitude to Mr. F.
Kevin Larsen. His help and active participation in our class functions
have made him an excellent advisor.

His guidance has been most appreciated.

L4

It was once said that a man's life is what lie makes it; so it is with
our years at Newark State. Let us view our college lives with grati-
tude, and let us utilize the rewards of knowledge and personal growth
that we have attained.

May I wish you success in the future and a lite of happiness.

VICTOR S. ZARZYCKI
President

SENIOR CLASS EXECUTIVE BOARD

Standing: left to right: Vic Zarzycki, President; John Gluck, Vice-President:
Seated: Ann Monisera, Recording Secretary; Pat Larkin, Treasurer; Kathy Sena"
Corresponding Secretary.

STUDENT
ORGANIZATION

ALBERT RECORD

President

My four-year career at Newark State College
has afforded me a great deal of invaluable experi-
ence. I believe that the greatest part of this
experience, and also the greatest honor, was being
given the opportunity to serve as president of the
student body. This position has given me the
opportunity to deal with the entire college com-
munity from the administration to the students.
The most striking fact about this experience is
that I was the executive head of the most latent
influential power within the college structure, the
student.

The administration and the faculty are aware
of this latent power, even though a majority of
the students are not. For the minority of students,
who are aware of this favorable structure it is
my opinion that they are usually reluctant to
apply their influence. This reluctance may be
caused by what I think is the most glaring short-
coming of our higher education system: that
being, the inability of the student to think and
act for himself. All through elementary and sec-
ondary school the student is virtually spoon-fed.
When he enters an institution of higher learning,
he accepts the status quo, since there is no reason
for him to look for anything else because of
his previous twelve years of educational indoc-
trination.

It will be a sad day for the citizens of this
nation if the so-called educated youth that is
pouring out of today's institutions of higher learn-
ing feels that what exists today in our society
cannot be surpassed! The home of the brave and
the land of the free will stagnate as a pool of

water that does not have a fresh supply of water
replenishing it.

In October of 1965, a group of students re-
fused to accept the status quo. This student
refusal has caused many of the educational lead-
ers of this nation to pause and to re-evaluate our
institutions of higher learning. I consider this a
landmark in our nation's history. The question is
now being raised: are our colleges and univer-
sities producing the new views and ideas which
our society needs, or are they manufacturing
human cogs to be neatly placed in the wheels of
our present social structure? Berkeley has arrived,
and to the contrary of what many people think,
the Berkeley rebellion has been the most invig-
orating splash the academic community has ex-
perienced in quite some time. For once, the
influence and power of the student within the
university was not only realized but utilized!

There are those who feel that the young col-
lege or university student does not have the
experience and ability to know what is needed
within today's society. If he does not know as
a student, then it is even more evident that our
institutions are failing. To this statement I can
only add that who else can know what is needed
better than those who desire; and those who
desire are today's students.

I wish to thank those who have given me the
opportunity to serve, the privilege to have taken
a small part in the ever changing world of the
student, for all of those who attend an institution
of higher learning are not necessarily students.

INTER-FRATERNITY SORORITY COUNCIL

The Inter-Fraternity-Sorority Council is a body com-
posed of representatives of each fraternity and sorority on
campus. The purposes of the organization are to promote
fellowship, cooperation, and understanding among social
fraternal groups on campus; to inform its member groups
of the policies concerning fraternal organizations; and to
act as the central governing agency among these groups.

The I.F.S.C. endeavors to support various academic,
athletic, service, and social functions. The organization,
moreover, offers various scholarships, one of which is
presented to a sophomore or junior sorority or fraternity
member.

This past year has been both a trying year and a very
rewarding year. If serious minded, interested people con-
tinue to strive towards our purposes, I can see a continu-
ation of success for the Council of future years.

SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR

Despite his busy schedule. Dr. Joseph Errington has never
failed to give willingly of his time and efforts. He has instilled
within his students a strong desire to win, and also an acceptance
of defeat. His enthusiasm and guidance are strong assets to the
high morale of all with whom he works. Whether on the field
or off, his overall dynamic attitude and his true sportsmanship
deem him worthy of this recognition and honor.
